Building Better Habits
Having better habits is probably something everybody strives for. Unfortunately sticking to the habits is a challenge. Along with sticking to your good habits you have to battle some possible bad habits that you have acquired over the years.
Habit tracking apps aren't a new idea and I even already have a favorite habits app already, but I thought it would be fun to build my own. For now I am going to have it be web based and just as simple as possible. I really would just like to see a contribution chart of my daily habits. So I'll be borrowing Github's contribution graph concept:
- I'll be taking a break from the "bleeding-edge" fullstack Next.js web apps and going to build my React app with Vite on the frontend and using Golang as my backend web app server
- Sort of forcing myself to learn more by using Golang, which as a web server is alright, but I think it is good for me to go framework-less as I can learn all the things I take for granted when using frameworks like Laravel
- Part of me thinks by building this myself will make me more consistent with my habits
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Days Before Rodeo Rerelease
This past weekend Travis Scott rereleased his sophomore mixtape Days Before Rodeo. Not only did this mixtape grab me and ascend me into the heavens, but it solidified me as a Travis Scott fan for life.
- 10 years later, songs like Mamacita, DYSTI, and Skyfall are still as exciting and listenable as ever
- Days Before Rodeo was the predecessor to Travis' debut album Rodeo
- Please if you haven't heard Drugs You Should Try It give that a listen and try to comeback and tell me this isn't a 10/10 song
Coziest Game: Tiny Glade
Cozy gaming is a phenomenon that I wasn't familiar with, let alone appreciative of. Growing up playing Call of Duty and Pokémon led me down a path of fast paced battling and fighting. While I still enjoy those aspects, I now understand the appeal to relaxing games like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and Tiny Glade.
- In Tiny Glade you simply "doodle" castles
- There is no other objective beyond making whatever castle your heart desires
- The procedural generation of the castles makes a fun and highly variable appearance compared to other gridlocked building like Minecraft
- Shout out to the game developers Anastasia Opara & Tomasz Stachowiak for making the poster child of cozy games
